The dialogue between QIT and the communities of Sorel-Tracy and
Havre-Saint-Pierre has become a daily reality. Open lines of
communication give rise to regular discussions with citizens and the
business community. In addition to reaching the public through the
media, QIT organizes activities and takes part in events in order to
present company issues and projects to regional representatives and
business people.

Liaison committees offer a setting for frank, sustained discussions
with citizens living near QIT facilities. Created in 1989 and still
active today, the "Comité consultatif en environnement de
Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel", an environmental advisory committee, works
together with QIT representatives to examine questions such as dust
and noise levels in the area. The Sorel-Tracy citizens’ committee
follows up on QIT commitments regarding the management of the
tailings site, where waste from the water
treatment plant is eliminated. QIT regularly carries out surveys and
consultations to better gauge the population’s concerns and
expectations.
