Research and development has always been an integral part of the company’s activities. In 1967, the research centre was created, thereby reaffirming the strategic role that R&D plays at QIT. The centre’s mission is to improve processes so as to expand markets and heighten the competitive value of QIT products. Its strength lies in its young, dynamic team of specialists in all fields of science and technology.

Research affects all areas of activity at QIT, from mining to the finished products. Unyielding synergy between research staff and operations personnel guarantees that improvement to the company’s processes is ongoing. Whether at the laboratory, the pilot plant or the production facilities, all research is conducted on site. Moreover, the centre is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and highly specialized instruments, such as inductively coupled plasma spectrometers, X-ray and atomic absorption apparatus, gas and image analyzers and scanning electron microscopes.

QIT-Fer Titane is one of the 50 Quebec companies most active in research and development, and its research centre is among the 10 largest in the Canadian metallurgical industry.
